Man allegedly stole iPads, iPhones from mail
Indictment filed against the defendant over the same incidents dismissed
The U.S. government has filed three charges against Randy A. Sablan in federal court for allegedly stealing mail packages that contained two Apple iPads and two Apple iPhones in 2012 and 2013.
The information charged Sablan with two counts of unauthorized mail opening and one count of misuse of postal property.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ross K. Naughton filed the information in the U.S. District Court for the NMI last Friday.
Last Sunday, citing “in the interests of justice” the U.S. government moved to dismiss the indictment filed against Sablan. Sablan’s counsel did not oppose the motion.
Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona yesterday granted the motion.
The indictment charged Sablan with mail theft and two counts of obstruction of mail over the same incidents. It was filed last April.
According to the information, on Nov. 19, 2012, Sablan opened a package that was not directed to him. The package contained two Apple iPads.
On April 28, 2013, Sablan opened a package that was addressed to a certain postal box. The package contained two Apple iPhones. The defendant allegedly stole the two iPhones.
