It’s business as usual at federal court
Even if the CNMI has been experiencing Internet and wireless service problems, it’s still business as usual at the U.S. District Court for the NMI.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Clerk of Court/Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy on Friday announced that the federal court will remain open to the public during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 4:30pm, throughout the current disruption in Internet and wireless service.
Kennedy said hearings will take place as scheduled, unless otherwise ordered by the court.
For people who need to make payment, the clerk’s office will accept cash and check, and give a paper receipt.
Kennedy said people who are representing themselves in a case (pro se proceeding), they may file papers by hand at the clerk’s office during regular business hours.
The magistrate judge added that they must bring the original and two copies for the court, plus enough additional copies to serve on all the other parties.
Kennedy said the court will be issuing a separate general order for attorneys regarding filing and service procedures during the disruption.
“If you have any questions, please call the clerk’s office at 237-1200 and our staff will be happy to assist you,” Kennedy said.
