Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc.’s tanker arrived on schedule Monday morning, Aug. 17, with fresh supplies of fuel for Saipan.

Discharge of the fuel to the tanks was completed safely Monday night and fresh loads of gasoline and diesel were sent off to service stations yesterday morning, Aug. 18.

The tanker had come from Singapore and would typically go first to Guam. The journey typically takes about seven to eight days, depending on weather and sea conditions. This time round, due to the immediate needs of the community in Saipan, plans were made to divert the tanker to Saipan, before now heading to Guam.

Charles Ewart, president of Mobil Oil Mariana Islands, said: “Since Typhoon Soudelor went through Saipan on Aug 2, our employees and workers [on] Saipan, and the larger regional organization, have been working hard to ensure continued safe supplies of fuel to the community [on] Saipan.

“Mobil has a robust and flexible regional network to ensure that we are able to provide reliable supplies of fuel.

“Mobil affiliates have two vessels serving the Micronesia region and have also invested in our terminals [on] Saipan and [in] Guam to ensure that we can maintain our supplies of fuel to meet the needs of the community.

“We continue to work closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the authorities [on] Saipan to provide any assistance necessary to support the community through this time.” (Mobil)
