The Northern Islands Mayor’s Office expresses sincere appreciation to the American Red Cross CNMI Chapter for its generous donation to the residents of the Northern Islands.

On July 17, 2015, Red Cross emergency services director Paul Camacho and Joe Jetnil of the American Red Cross CNMI Chapter donated materials for the residents of the Northern Islands who were affected by Typhoon Nangka on July 9, 2015.

According to Northern Islands Mayor Jerome K. Aldan, the American Red Cross was the first responding agency to extend its support to the residents of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrigan who were impacted by the recent storm.

Donations included ice chests, blankets, comfort kits, shovels, butane stoves and rakes.

Aldan is scheduled to sail to the Northern Islands soon to personally deliver the donations to the residents.

Aldan commends Camacho and Jetnil for their unusually swift response in coming to the rescue of Northern Islands residents. Aldan wanted to especially recognize the two for their sensitivity and sense of community in setting the Red Cross’ footprints in the Northern Islands and its residents, for the help comes a long way in making a difference in the lives of the residents, “who are oftentimes are neglected by its own government when it comes to their needs.”

Aldan said the donation would greatly support the victims of Typhoon Nangka in the Northern Islands.

“The Red Cross should serve as an example to most of the first responders when it comes to helping people and communities,” he said. “Again, thank you, Mr. Paul Camacho, Mr. Joe Jetnil, and Red Cross for helping us and being there for us when it matters most.” (Northern Islands Mayor’s Office)
