The CNMI Department of Labor recovered almost $3,000 worth of unpaid wages from various employers. Four separate cases were filed against the employers.

“It is comforting to know that employees trust the CNMI DOL to protect their rights as employees, their complaints are taken seriously, and that their cases will be investigated,” Secretary Edith DeLeon Guerrero said.

According to the information given by Enforcement director Gil San Nicolas, two of the cases were filed in April. One employer paid $700 for unpaid work hours by an employee in September 2014, while another paid $84.70 for unpaid work hours done in February.

Another case was filed last June where the employer paid $768.

The sum of $1,143.89 was paid by another employer for unpaid work hours from May 21 to June 30. This case was filed this month.

A total of $2,696.59 was recovered by the department.

After the investigation, the wages were immediately given to the employees.

DOL said it is determined and committed in its enforcement efforts and that these enforcement efforts promote a good business environment.
