Man gets 6-month sentence for threatening family
A 39-year-old man accused of threatening to kill family members with a machete and a butcher knife at their residence in Koblerville has pleaded guilty and was slapped with a six-month prison term.
At a change of plea hearing on Friday, Abdon Romolor Teregeyo pleaded guilty to two counts of assault as a lesser-included offense of assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of disturbing.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho granted Teregeyo’s guilty plea and sentenced him to one year in prison, all suspended except for six months.
Camacho gave Teregeyo credit for 77 days of time served of.
After serving the prison term, Teregeyo will be placed on two years of supervised probation. He was required to pay a $200 fine, $200 probation fee and $25 in court costs.
Teregeyo was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and complete any recommended counseling by the Community Guidance Center.
Teregeyo is prohibited from possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverages or controlled substances during his probation.
Camacho granted the motion of assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda to dismiss the remaining charges. Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer served as counsel for Teregeyo.
According to the factual basis of the plea agreement, on May 28, 2015, on Saipan, Teregeyo threatened to hit his nephew and his niece.
The defendant then threatened to kill everyone and burn the house down, causing his mother and his sister to call the police. No one was physically injured.
Police detective Vincent A. Igisaiar stated in his report that two police officers responded to a residence in Koblerville, where a caller reported that Teregeyo had threatened to assault family members with a machete.
Police officers learned that Teregeyo got upset after his niece told him not to touch the food intended for her ailing grandmother.
Teregeyo grabbed a machete and later a butcher knife and threatened to kill his niece, his sister and other family members in the house.
According to the mother, she is tired of her son threatening to kill all of them. She also stated that her son would damage items in the house then expect to be paid for it.
