San Diego club sets up fundraiser for Saipan typhoon relief efforts

The list keeps getting longer, with more and more contributions from off-island and former CNMI residents throwing their support behind relief efforts for Saipan in the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor’s islandwide destruction.

The CNMI San Diego Club, which is leading a relief drive, has been receiving donations from many former Saipan residents.

David Atalig, president for the CNMI San Diego Club, said they’ve set up a GoFundMe page, www.GoFundMe.com/savetheCNMI, and all donations will be sent directly to the Karidat Social Services organization.

So far the account has garnered more than $8,700 in donations while also receiving mass support in the form of donated clothing, food, and many items.

“Our friends and families on the islands of Saipan and Tinian have suffered the most damage and we seek your prayers and especially your monetary donations in helping the CNMI in their recovery,” Atalig stated.

He said their club was prompted to set up the campaign after many approached them to ask how they can donate and assist their families in the CNMI.

The CNMI San Diego Club, along with Roil Soil Clothing, will ensure all monetary and in-kind donations will go directly to the people of the CNMI through Karidat to purchase items like blankets, water, food, and clothing for typhoon victims, whether in shelters or in their own homes.

The CNMI San Diego Club is also partnering with the Sons and Daughters of Guam Club in San Diego to coordinate donated items that will be sent to the island. All items will be brought to SDGC at 334 Willie James Jones Avenue in San Diego where they will be stored until a container is filled and shipped.
