Melinda Camacho, GPA assistant general manager of Operations, said that when she received the call from acting governor Ralph DLG. Torres regarding the status of utilities on island, GPA was very happy to lend a helping hand to its neighbors to the north.
“It is the right thing to do to assist our northern neighbors in getting their lives back to normal. We have the utmost confidence in the expertise of both GPA and CUC. They will be able get Saipan’s power system up quickly even after the devastation of Typhoon Soudelor,” said Camacho.
The 13 additional GPA personnel bring the total to 23 GPA employees on Saipan. That number includes linemen crew, heavy equipment operators, transportation mechanics, safety officers, generation maintenance personnel, and engineers.
Acting governor Torres expressed his gratitude to GPA for the additional support they are providing for CUC, which continues to work around the clock on utilities restoration for the entire island.
“I want to thank the Guam Power Authority for not hesitating to assist us when I called them. They have gone above and beyond to help our hardworking responders in CUC restore water and electricity to our residents as soon as possible. I cannot express my appreciation to them and CUC enough,” Torres said. (Emergency Operations Center)
