10 gas stations are now open to the public
3 gas stations reserved for government emergency vehicles
IP&E opened five Shell stations on Saipan yesterday for the general public, while reserving one station for emergency vehicles only.
At the same time, Mobil Oil opened five service stations to the general public yesterday starting at 12pm, following progress on containing the situation at its Saipan terminal.
In a statement yesterday, IP&E said the five Shell stations that are now open to the public are Shell Puerto Rico, Shell Gualo Rai, Shell Highway Express, Shell Susupe, and Shell Airport. However, the Shell Airport station only has gasoline. The four others have both gasoline and diesel fuel. All five stations will be open to general public from 8am to 7pm.
The Shell Koblerville station is only open to government official emergency vehicles.
To ensure that fuel is available for all government emergency recovery vehicles and first responders, Shell Station operators will be limiting fuel sales to $50 per fuel transaction.
The Mobil gas stations that are now open to the public are on Middle Road, Susupe, Koblerville, Tanapag, and Chalan Kiya. All stations will operate during daylight hours from 12pm to 6pm.
Each customer will be allowed to refuel their vehicle’s tank and fill up to five gallons of fuel in an approved fuel container.
“We will continue to monitor the situation at the terminal and our service stations,” the company said in a statement. “Please be assured that we have sufficient fuel supplies in Saipan.”
Mobil will keep the BR Garapan and Kagman (only gasoline is available at this station) available for refuel only by emergency vehicles and essential services to facilitate relief and recovery work.
Shell Stations are working with the Department of Public Works and the Office of Homeland Security in this measure to provide assistance in stabilizing the island as safely and quickly as possible.
