The summer camp, which offers badminton and football, started last June 29 and will end on July 31. The daily summer clinic starts at 8:30am up to 11:30am.

Sessions were not held during the onslaught of typhoons Chan-Hom and Nangka that passed by Saipan on back-to-back Fridays.

Sixty-two signed up for badminton and they are divided into the Under-10 and U15 age groups while 79 joined football, all in U15.

Community Badminton Club members John Costales, Deether Edralin, Nicole Malasarte, Jeremi Montenejo, and reigning Sun Palace badminton tournament women’s singles champion Janelle Pangilinan are facilitating the clinic

Hu Jin Woo is conducting the football clinic assisted by a number of female football players from the different clubs.

CBC members have so far taught both age groups on the basic skills used in badminton like jumping, running, and hitting the birdie or shuttlecock.

It was playtime for the kids in the U10 age group where CBC members let the kids compete in relay races or play tag that teach them about the proper footwork used in playing badminton.

The U15 age division, who already know how to play the sport, is a little more serious where the participating teens learn some conditioning exercises and basic drills to further improve the way they play.

A mini tournament will be held in the last week of the badminton clinic where participants will be divided into teams and compete against each other in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles.

Over at the football side, the coaches have taught the kids how to dribble the ball and receive a pass from their teammate.

They also play regular games where they learn basic plays on how to score goals.

Organizers of the clinic will also hold a mini tournament from Aug. 3 to 7 where participants will be chosen for badminton and football.

Dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, bowling, beach soccer, and other fun games—tug of war, egg relay, obstacle course, and banana/apple eating contest— are also lined up.
