Mobil Saipan terminal services expected to resume today

Share

On Aug. 3, Typhoon Soudelor caused a shipping container from the adjacent port to damage one of the tanks at the Mobil Terminal, resulting in a gasoline release into the containment bund area. Over the last two days, efforts have been focused on stopping the leakage safely. We are pleased to report that our response teams, in coordination with the authorities, have safely stopped the leak. The teams are currently carrying out further necessary cleanup operations and checks to ensure that the terminal can open safely.

While the active response is ongoing, however, product lifting operations at the loading rack have been suspended for safety reasons. We would like to assure the Saipan community that there is sufficient fuel to meet the community’s needs in our terminals. However, we will have to wait until terminal operations can be safely carried out before resuming deliveries to the service stations.

We are hopeful that we may be able to resume terminal operations for fuel deliveries to the service stations today (Thursday, Aug. 6). Meanwhile, we will be opening four service stations today for emergency vehicles and essential services to refuel to facilitate post-typhoon relief and recovery work, and the restoration of essential services. We seek your understanding and we will provide an update as soon as normal operations at our service stations can resume. (Mobil)
