Hours extended for temporary water outage

The temporary water service interruption Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers on Capital Hill experienced yesterday has been extended, as crews continue work on the Capital Hill Water Line and Pressure Improvement Project.

At 8am, CUC temporarily interrupted water service to customers on Capital Hill, Wireless Ridge, and portions of Chalan Galaide to allow CUC’s contractor, Maeda Inc., to connect the new water main to the current distribution line on Capital Hill.

Work on the project was expected to take up to nine hours to complete, but the newly poured concrete thrust block requires additional to time to cure before water service will be restored to the area.

Acting executive director John Riegel said the additional curing time will allow the thrust block to withstand the force the water will put on the pipe once the pipe is pressurized.

“The project is taking a little bit longer than originally planned but the curing will be complete in a few hours and service will be restored tonight,” said Riegel.
