Two Saipan tourist sites are vandalized
Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individual(s) responsible for vandalizing Banzai Cliff and Grotto between the hours of 5pm last Thursday, July 23, and 9am on Friday, July 24.
Three metal plaques from monuments and an ornament bowl for incense were stolen at Banzai Cliff. Also, graffiti was spray painted on the Grotto pavilion and water tank. The crimes were discovered by the Marianas Visitors Authority’s security guards of Island Protection Services on Friday morning.

“The desecration of the memorials at Banzai Cliff is shocking,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “This type of disrespect is completely uncharacteristic of our community, and we hope someone will provide information that will allow us to recover these plaques that have been placed by off-island and local groups in memory of the departed.”
Graffiti at Grotto included the initial “A” and “#6.” Community members are encouraged to contact the Department of Public Safety if they have information. (MVA)
