Grace Christian Academy’s Lady Eagles and Saipan International School’s Junior Lady Geckos (SIS2) clinched wins over separate opponents during last Thursday’s games in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Volleyball League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Eagles faced the Kagman High School’s Lady Ayuyus and took the victory outright after prevailing in the first two sets, 25-17, 25-5. Kagman avoided a shutout loss when it won the third set, 15-11. GCA improved to a 7-1 record, while Kagman dropped to a 3-5 slate.
In the other game, SIS2 survived MHS’s junior squad (MHS2) despite losing the opening set, 20-25. The Lady Geckos stole the win after topping the last two sets, 25-8, 15-10.
The victory evened out SIS2’s card to 4-4, while MHS2 fell to a 2-6 record.
Meanwhile, the league-leading SIS1 was gifted a forfeit win over Saipan Southern High School (0-8), while MHS’ varsity crew (MHS1) was also handed a win by default against the shorthanded Mariana Baptist Academy (3-5). It was a tough break for MBA, which won its last two games. SIS1 now has a perfect 8-0 record, while MHS1 remains in third place with a 6-2 card.
The season continues on Tuesday with MHS1 hosting SIS2 on the north court at 4pm, and MBA facing SSHS on the south end. Then at 5pm SIS1 waves over a hungry GCA crew on the north side, while KHS battles MHS2 on the south square. Notably, GCA’s lone loss came from defending champion SIS1.
