USDOE awards $280K to UOG TRIO Student Support Services Program
HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded the University of Guam $281,511 to fund the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program. The goal of the DOE competitive grant program is to increase college retention and graduation rates for its participants.
The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program will provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and motivate students to complete their postsecondary education. The grant will fund services such as tutoring, assistance with course selection and financial aid applications, and financial literacy counseling.
“TRIO is a signature program at the University that exemplifies our commitment to student success and opportunity. Yoichi Rengiil and his team of Tritons helps move the university from good to great,” said UOG president Dr. Robert Underwood.
“This grant award will provide the University of Guam with the funds to help improve access to education for students,” said Bordallo. “Our students need guidance and encouragement through what can be a daunting educational journey. I commend UOG for their commitment to student success, and am grateful to the U.S. Department of Education for funding this Student Support Services Program to help students at UOG navigate through the college process.
