Assessment of damage still ongoing as Internet access returns to normal
The Department of Finance is continuing the assessment of financial damage caused by a massive communications breakdown a few weeks ago.
Services have reportedly returned to “normal,” particularly Internet access services.
Finance Secretary Larissa Larson said the assessment report will be submitted to acting governor Ralph DLG. Torres for review after the department completes the report.
The Finance chief reiterated that the communications breakdown “slowed us down dramatically.”
“We’re still assessing. As soon as we have something, then we will have formal report for the governor for his review,” Larson said.
Earlier, Larson said there is no estimate yet—in monetary terms—of the damage but her department and other CNMI departments “are on top of it.”
Larson earlier said her department will soon formalize a request for “credit” from IT&E. “We do feel that the disruptions to the Department of Commerce and to our department warrants it,” she said.
On Capital Hill, government employees said their Internet access is back and that work on document transmittal and email communications are back to normal. (Joel Pinaroc)
