The CNMI Department of Labor ordered a fine for KN Corp., which is doing business on island as Sherwood.

According to the order issued by the department’s Administrative Hearing Office, the company is sanctioned a fine of $2,000.

It said that the employer failed to post job vacancy announcements at the DOL’s website. The order also stated that there was no evidence that the employer made any real effort to recruit of hire U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

It added that “the failure was largely the result of negligence on the part of the agent; however, the employer cannot simply pass off its obligations on an agent and forget about them.”

Half of the fine must be paid no later than 30 days after the issuance of the order, while the other half may be suspended for one year and then extinguished if KN Corp. commits no further violations of CNMI labor law during that period.

The order also requires KN Corp. to submit a revised workforce plan to the citizen job placement availability and the job placement section.

The company was also ordered to post all job vacancies and job renewals in the future in the DOL website.

Should KN Corp. fail to comply, it will be subject to the reinstatement of the suspended fine as well as possible additional monetary sanctions to be determined in another hearing.
