“I am so happy and excited. …Now I can pay my bills, send some to my sick sister, and pay my daughter’s tuition,” said Kim, who owns the Makeover Beauty Salon at the Sun Palace Hotel in Susupe.

She said she purchased only $10 worth of tickets (two booklets).

The second place winner got $5,000, while the third place winner got $3,000. Organizers withheld the names of the other Top 3 winners.

Aside from the raffle ticket winners, the float competition winners were also presented with their checks.

The Yapaese community won $4,000 for finishing first place in the float competition.

Dionisia Pialur Ythemar, representing the Yapese community, spoke in Chamorro and told Saipan Tribune that they were happy.

“It was hard work, we kept redoing the float for almost three weeks and every night they kept practicing their dancing,” Ythemar said.

Papago Lancherus won second place and was given a check for $3,000. Herman Santos, 57, who spoke on behalf of the Lancherus, said their goal was to promote local produce and the agricultural side of the islands.

Choll A Bellu won third place and representatives took home $2,000 in cash prize, while the United Filipino Organization took $1,000 as fourth place winners.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, in his congratulatory remarks, thanked Skywalker Communications’ president Dr. Hu Bo for making this year’s raffle prizes, including the fundraising from the 2015 Liberation Royal Court, possible.
