Little League HQ to decide new NMI DA
It will be up to the officials of the Little League headquarters in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania to decide who will be the next CNMI district administrator after voting last Friday ended up in a tie.
Former DA and Department of Public Works Secretary James Ada and Northern Marianas Sports Association executive director and Saipan Baseball League coordinator Tony Rogoilfoi were the two candidates for the post to be vacated by Mike Borja.
According to election board chairman Robert Guerrero, the tally ended up 1-1 after the voting done by representatives of the chartered Little Leagues of Saipan and Rota. Tinian failed to vote since it was not chartered this year.
“I will submit the report and minutes of the whole election process to the Little League headquarters and it will be up to them to decide who will be the next DA,” said Guerrero in a telephone interview with the Saipan Tribune.
“Now we will just have to wait for their decision,” added Guerrero, who is also the Department of Corrections Commissioner.
Both Ada and Rogolifoi have served in various capacities under the Saipan Little League program and have been involved in baseball for most part of their lives.
The two candidates submitted their credentials, letter of intent, and other requirements to Guerrero and the latter will forward them to Little League headquarters.
Ada and Rogolifoi said they are leaving it up to Little League headquarters and they would gladly accept the decision since both of them have good intentions for the Little League baseball program in the CNMI.
Ada has been involved with the CNMI Little League program since the 90s and served as the Commonwealth’s DA in mid 2000s before being replaced by Borja. The DPW head was also the tournament director when Saipan hosted the Asia Pacific regionals in 2008 and this year.
Rogolifoi, on the other hand, was a former director of the now defunct Division of Sports and Recreation and has been the SBL coordinator for more than 10 years now. He guided the CNMI to gold medals in the 2006 Saipan Micronesian Games and the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia and became the NMSA executive director when the sports organization became a private entity in 2013.
