The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Office on Aging submitted the CNMI State Plan on Aging to the Administration for Community Living.

According Aging director Walter Manglona, they were able to submit the plan, which covers fiscal years 2015 to 2019.

The plan went through the DCCA as well as the Governor’s Office before being submitted to the said administrations.

Prior to that, a public hearing was also held last June 17 headed by Manglona in Saipan and Office on Aging coordinators Valerie Apatang and Evelyn David in Tinian and Rota.

According to Manglona, most of the comments from the public were positive. Earlier, he said that the plan was made with the man’amkó themselves.

The four-year plan will provide direction for the Office on Aging for the development of a comprehensive and coordinated system of home- and community-based services that allow senior citizens and older persons with physical disabilities to continue to live in their homes and communities.

The state plan said it is aligned to the national goals and objectives of the ACL Strategic Action Plan of 2013 to 2018.

It stated goals set forth by the Office on Aging such as to provide information on the office’s programs and services; to enable people with disabilities and older adults to live in the community; as well as to protect and enhance the rights and prevent the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults and people with disabilities among others.
