Torres prepares to take over, summons Cabinet members
Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres will summon Cabinet members today to discuss and set an agenda for the coming weeks.
Torres will be the acting governor with the departure of Gov. Eloy S. Inos for a three-week vacation in Seattle. Inos is scheduled to fly to the mainland today.
“Yes, I will be acting governor. I have asked Cabinet members to meet today to set an agenda as move forward when Governor Inos takes his vacation,” Torres said.
He declined to comment on the commutation of sentence for former governor Benigno A. Fitial, adding that it is Inos who has the authority to make the decision.
Festivities
Torres, meanwhile, said although most of the Liberation Day festivities set for Saturday have been canceled he is still thankful for the organizers of a free concert to mark the important day.
He said the free concert at the Kanoa Resort, featuring Hawaiian artist Anuhea, is a great public service to the CNMI community.
“This is a very important holiday. Although the typhoon has hampered some of the activities, we are still here and we are going to make the best of it,” Torres, who was in attendance in the Saturday concert, said.
