Suspected house burglar eats food then falls asleep
A man allegedly burglarized a house in Chinatown, stole some food and ate some, but later fell asleep at the scene on Wednesday before dawn.
When police officer Roque Camacho responded to the house, he saw the suspect, Christopher Romolor, still sleeping on the floor of the house’s balcony next to the screen door.
Camacho saw curry sauce on Romolor’s mouth and hands and found next to him a stolen plate of rice, box containing a dozen eggs, paper plates, and a container with cooked food in it.
Camacho woke up the 27-year-old Romolor, who was then arrested and detained for burglary and theft.
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo reduced to $5,000 cash from the original $11,000 cash bail.
Police sought the $11,000 cash bail as they planned to file additional charges against the defendant.
Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that during an interview with another detective, Romolor claimed he doesn’t remember what happened because he was drunk.
Pangelinan said Romolor also confessed to burglarizing Martha Store last April 21 and a storage room at the Aging Center last Jan. 27.
The defendant also admitted to burglarizing J&G Water Company. The date of the incident was not indicated in the report.
Pangelinan said that on Wednesday at 3:42am, Camacho responded to a disturbance call at the residence of Mohammed Mia located in Chinatown.
When Camacho arrived, Mia led him to the balcony of his house on the second floor of the building, where a man, who was later identified as Romolor, was sleeping.
The back screen door lock of the house was damaged. Mia identified all the food next to Romolor as belonging to him and his family.
Mia said he woke up at 3:30am because it’s their religion’s month of fasting. When he checked the rice in the kitchen, he noticed it was not there.
Mia noticed that their back screen door was open and when he checked it, he was surprised to see a man lying on the floor next to the screen door.
Mia got scared so he locked the screen door slowly and called the police.
