BREAKING NEWS: Liberation Day parade, activities cancelled until further notice

For the second straight year, Saturday’s scheduled Liberation Day Parade has been postponed until further notice, including all liberation activities beginning tonight due to Typhoon Chan-Hom.
In a statement issued at 4:25pm today, Apatang said that due to the approaching storm, which is expected to reach the CNMI on July 4 and 5, the parade and festivities will be postponed until further noticed.
Apatang is also advising all concessionaires, parade participants, performers, guests, and visitors that activities for this evening, July 2, tomorrow, July 3, and the weekend are cancelled.
“On behalf of the [Saipan] Mayor’s Office, Skywalker Communications Group, and the 2015 Liberation Day Committee, I would like to apologize for the cancellation and for any inconvenience,” Apatang said.
The 2014 Liberation Day Parade was also postponed on July 4 last year because of a tropical storm, but was held the next day, July 5.
More details in tomorrow’s paper.
