BANMI wants to go ahead with Lib Day caging
Basketball Association on Northern Mariana Islands wanted to push through with the 2015 Liberation Day Tournament despite the likely absence of the Andersen Bombers.
Tournament director Elias Rangamar said the Bombers are supposed to join the July 2 to July 5 competition, but the visiting squad informed him yesterday that they may not be able to make the Saipan trip due to flight availability.
In an email to Rangamar, a representative from the Anderson Bombers said that they are having difficulty securing a flight back to Guam on July 6. The representative added they were scheduled to have practice last night and make the final decision about their participation in the tournament.
Pending the formal withdrawal from the Bombers, Rangamar said they want to go ahead with the tournament.
“I would still like to see our open men’s division go on as planned so we can gauge where we are at but most importantly get some basketball action going. I will reduce the entry fee from $100 to $50,” Rangamar said in an email sent to the interested teams.
The men’s open division has four squads in the Bombers, Hoops, Ol’Aces, and the Junior Ol’Aces, while the junior category features the Marianas Dolphins Marianas-Alu’u, Marianas Tataga, and Women’s National. Each division has a pool play format with the Top 2 teams advancing to the finals.
Teams had until last night to confirm their participation.
