Name the Liberation Day mascot launched
The 2015 CNMI Liberation Festivities have unveiled the event’s official mascot and need the public’s help in naming it. The 2015 Liberation Mascot Naming Contest will officially start during tonight’s kick-off event and will award a $500 grand prize.
Pictures of the mascot were unveiled on the event’s Facebook account yesterday: adorable Latte Stone-shaped people in assorted colors and accessories (like the traditional mwar)
The character in the forefront will be the main mascot while the various others behind it will be extensions of it and seen throughout the festivities.
These lovable characters, in all their variations, embody the Liberation Festivities’ theme of “Peace in diversity.” Their joyful faces convey the warmth of the welcoming “Hafa Adai spirit that exists throughout the islands. Their various colors and accessories represent the different cultures and beliefs that call the CNMI “home.”
During tonight’s Liberation Festivities Kick-off, the emcee will formally present the mascot to the island to ask for suggestions for the name. The winning suggestion will be announced on July 4 during the evening’s events.
The mascots were created by Shan Duan, a CG/FX artist, who is now based in Los Angeles and Seattle. His work has spanned campaigns ranging from feature films to commercials to AAA video game. His credits include Frozen and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Duan has been recognized with numerous awards for his work and his collaborations with other designers and animators.
