Regulators still studying BSI offer on training
The Commonwealth Casino Commission is still studying an offer from Best Sunshine International, Ltd. regarding the possibility of a joint training session.
BSI has set up a training school at the fourth floor of the Bank of Guam building in Garapan. This is in preparation of the opening of a temporary casino right across the street at the DFS Galleria.
“We have no decision yet if our staff will avail of the training,” commissioner Justin S. Manglona said.
Manglona, who also serves as the commission’s secretary, said he and the other commissioners have yet to sit down to discuss the training.
Manglona, however, said for its own requirements, the casino commission “needs to upgrade the status of the various positions (for the commission’s office), after what we learned from the training in Las Vegas.”
He said the casino commission has not yet completed the hiring process of its staff, although the commission now has its own office at the second floor of the XO Market building in Gualo Rai. For a few months, the casino commission occupied one of the offices at the Governor’s Office building at Capital Hill.
Manglona said the commission is set to hold a meeting in its own office this Friday.
Still hiring
Back in May, BSI said it is looking to interview more applicants for the temporary casino. In one single week, BSI said it interviewed 400 applicants.
The latest figure BSI gave was it already has 100 employees, 30 of whom are local residents.
BSI officials also disclosed that at the end of the interview process, some 600 positions are expected to be filled.
BSI earlier said it is eyeing to hire 500 trainees for the temporary live training facility and it is prioritizing locals for the job openings.
Any training will also be open to the regulators, BSI said.
