Inos, Torres regional tournament’s special guests
Gov. Eloy Inos and Lt. Gov. Ralph Deleon Guerrero Torres will be the guests of honor in the opening of the 2015 Asia-Pacific-Middle East Junior, Senior, and Big League Baseball Regional Tournament this Friday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
The regional organizing committee has already sent out an invitation to the Governor’s Office which confirmed that both Inos and Torres will be attending the opening rites and the welcome dinner at Coral Ocean Point.
“The Gov. and Lt. Gov confirmed their attendance as well as Senate President Victor C. Hocog and House Speaker Joseph Deleon Guerrero,” said tournament director James Ada in a phone interview.
The organizing committee will also hold a meeting at 5pm today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to update the final preparations being done for the regionals.
Chief umpire Robert Guerrero is also expected to announce the final number of game officials who will be on hand to facilitate the 48 games to be played in all three divisions.
Mabel Ngirngemelas, Manny Tenorio, Roy Celis, Luis Ngiraikelau, and Hines Asanuma are some of the 11 certified umpires on Saipan and Guerrero said that he expects each visiting team would also bring one from their delegation.
The CNMI, along with Guam and the Philippines, will be competing in all three Little League divisions with the Commonwealth hoping to defend the Senior League crown and Chinese- Taipei aiming for a second straight Junior and Big League division titles.
Australia is only competing in the Juniors division, while Hong Kong will be sending Junior and Senior League teams.
The Juniors division will follow a single round-robin format where the Top 2 teams will be playing for the title. The Senior and Big league will play two rounds with the top squad facing the No. 4 and second-ranked contingent taking on the No. 3. Team.
This year’s regionals will open with the CNMI dueling Guam in the Big League division at 3pm.
