Rota relief efforts going smoothly
Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said that Rota relief efforts that the municipalities of Saipan and the Northern Islands and Tinian are coordinating have gone smoothly.
“We’ve already received donations from G4S and they’ve donated ramen, spam, and other canned products and other needed household products,” Saipan Mayor’s Office special assistant Henry Hofschneider said.
Local leaders that included Apatang, Northern Islands Mayor Jerome Aldan, and Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chair Antonia M. Tudela and vice chair Alice Igitol announced their plans on the relief efforts to help residents of Rota during a briefing earlier this month.
Solicitation letters have already been written out to businesses to gain support and receive donations which can be respectively dropped to their offices.
Apatang said that donations such as non-perishable items are accepted only and will be going to Rota. The Saipan Mayor’s Office is working on getting a 40-foot container that will be put at their office in Beach Road at the Ladera Center.
Anyone who wants to donate can send donations to Aldan’s office on Capitol Hill, the Saipan Mayor’s Office at the Ladera Center in San Jose, and the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council office in Chalan Kanoa near the post office.
Rota residents are appealing for help after Typhoon Dolphin battered the islands last month.
The Tinian Mayor’s Office and the Tinian Municipal Council are holding their respective fundraising drives on Tinian.
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s My Young Professionals will be visiting the Saipan Mayor’s Office today to present their donations to the relief drive.
Apatang is urging businesses and community members to take part in the relief efforts for Rota.
