Tourist, 60, drowns while snorkeling in Managaha
A 60-year-old Korean female tourist drowned while snorkeling with some family members in Managaha Island on Tuesday morning, Saipan Tribune learned.
Family members and representatives of a tour company went to the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Division yesterday afternoon. Saipan Tribune learned that the family wants to request from chief prosecutor Leonardo Rapadas not to arrange for an autopsy of the victim.
The Department of Public Safety has yet to release information to the media about the incident.
A source said the victim and her son and the son’s wife and the couple’s child went to Managaha on Tuesday. The victim and the couple were then snorkeling. Later, the couple noticed that the victim was already floating.
The victim was later pronounced dead.
Last October, an economist of an investment company who was snorkeling at Grotto in Marpi was found dead at the dive site. Autopsy revealed he died of drowning.
Last Oct. 10, a 67-year-old Korean male tourist on a snorkeling tour drowned near Managaha reef.
In May 2014, a Japanese snorkeling instructor drowned at the Pinatang Dive Site on Rota.
In February 2014, a 17-month old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a house in Papago.
