Won Pat responds to Simon Sanchez High School RFP

HAGÅTÑA—Speaker Judith T. Won Pat is pleased that the RFP to reconstruct Simon Sanchez High School has been released. Simon Sanchez serves a large part of the island’s northernmost student population but has required massive constructional repairs. Plans to revamp the 40-year-old structure have been long awaited.

“I have been a steadfast advocate for our schools and quality education,” said Won Pat. “The news that the $100-million RFP is now out means that our students can look forward to a new school conducive to learning.”

Early 2014, Won Pat had introduced the bill that became Public Law 32-120, which appropriated Real Property Tax Revenues specifically for the renovation or construction of a new Simon Sanchez High School with the stipulation that unused funds go to renovating the remaining public schools. “I’m thrilled that this project is being fulfilled,” said Won Pat. “Investing in education is an investment into the future, and it boosts our economy today. The rehabilitation of Simon Sanchez and the rest of our schools will provide great advantages. We benefit tremendously when we prioritize education.”
