Japanese media to feature NMI

Seven Japanese media outlets are preparing television, magazine and other coverage of the Northern Marianas for publication over the next several months following familiarization tours in May.

“May was a very strong month for media FAM tours from Japan, partly due to annual World War II memorial services. As a result, we’re looking forward to a series of ad exposures for the Northern Marianas over the next few months.” said Marianas Visitors Authority marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “FAM tours continue to be one of our best returns on investment. In this case, we will be receiving around $1 million worth of exposure for our assistance with filming, permitting, and other modest cost support for these groups.”

The coverage commences with Sesame, a bimonthly magazine focusing on child trends and lifestyle. The magazine released an 8-page feature on Saipan on June 7, 2015, featuring a popular child model. Activities to be featured include Managaha adventures for children, spa and relaxation for mothers, and cultural experiences. The feature will also introduce the MVA’s Happy Children in Paradise campaign.

Japanese model/actor Tetsuya Sugaya shot for his 80-page photo book with interview magazine JUNON for a July 24, 2015, feature.

Seventy-nine-year-old Mitsuko Miyazato, an Okinawan resident of Saipan in her childhood, will be featured by RBC The News!, a daily news program of Ryukyu Broadcasting Corp. in Okinawa. The story covers the 46th memorial tour to the Northern Marianas from Okinawa and will air in late June 2015. The Micronesian Repatriation Association’s memorial tour will also be featured by OTV Super News on Okinawa Television.

The visit of Buddhist group, Nenpou Shinkyou, was documented by filming a 30-minute program to air in August 2015. The group visits annually to conduct World War II memorial services in the Northern Marianas and has built several memorials on Saipan.

Two female reporters filmed activities including food and shopping for a one-time, 8-minute special by Nagasaki International Broadcasting, Inc. The program will air in September 2015 to an estimated 1.4-million households.

First Impression also spent a week filming with female models for a promotional DVD and magazine feature about the Northern Marianas. The production focuses on Saipan’s beaches and other tourist sites. (MVA)
