Woman allegedly assaults 2 cops, tries to grab gun
A female passenger service agent was arrested for allegedly making a disturbance at a massage parlor in Susupe and trying to grab a gun from one of three police officers during a struggle on Wednesday night.
Jayna Jia Cepeda Kaipat, 26, also allegedly kicked police officer Pete Seman several times in the chest and once in the throat, scratched police officer Kui Rogopes’ face, and threatened to kill the officers and their families.
Kaipat was taken to Superior Court for a bail hearing on Friday on charges of assault and battery, assault, resisting arrest, obstructing justice: interference with law enforcement officer or witness, and disturbing the peace.
Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio allowed Kaipat to post $375 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for June 11 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Kaipat.
Police detective Daniel T. Kintol stated in his report that three police officers responded to I Love Massage on Wednesday at 7:58pm after a caller reported to the Department of Public Safety about a woman causing a disturbance.
Kintol said the officers learned that Kaipat entered the massage parlor, demanded to use the phone, began to argue with the owner, and refused to leave the parlor.
One officer tried to escort Kaipat out but she refused to leave and became uncooperative. When Seman asked the parlor’s owner if she wanted to file a complaint, Kaipat allegedly grabbed the officer’s right shoulder, turning him around and yelling at him not to force the owner to make a complaint.
Seman tried to secure Kaipat in handcuffs but she allegedly resisted and struggled with the three officers.
During the struggle, Kaipat allegedly tried to grab the gun of Rogopes from its holster, but a bystander yelled that the defendant was trying to get the gun.
The officers secured Kaipat in handcuffs. As the officers had a hard time putting her in the police vehicle, Kaipat’s own husband assisted the officers in carrying her into the police vehicle.
While Seman was closing the door, Kaipat allegedly kicked her repeatedly in the chest and once in the throat. She also threatened to kill the officers and their families.
In the booking area at the Department of Corrections, Kaipat was allegedly still uncooperative and scratched Rogopes in the face.
