Naval Base Guam announces Maila Halom Day 2015
SANTA RITA, Guam—U.S. Naval Base Guam’s Commanding Officer, Capt. Andy Anderson, takes pleasure in announcing the first open-base event, Mailá Hålom Day 2015, to be held on June 20 from 6am to 8pm at the Charles King Fitness Center compound on base.
Mailá Hålom (which means “come in,” or “welcome” in Chamorro) is designed to strengthen friendships with the community, build an understanding of the base and its capabilities, and provide an open forum for citizens of Guam to visit the naval base for a day full of festivities.
The free event kicks off with a 5K run on base, followed by sports activities such as a softball tournament, a 3-on-3 soccer tournament, and a volleyball tournament. The compound will be filled with food and drink from various vendors, as well as other sales. Children can enjoy a kingdom of bouncy houses, various games and a Carabao ride. During the day, there will be military static displays, historical displays, and music from a local disc jockey, as well as the rock band, “Taking Back Sunday,” who will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. In addition, the fitness center pool is open to the community.
Naval Base Guam would like to remind the community that everyone is welcome to this free, open event, but there will be no pets nor alcohol permitted on the base.
