Natural Resources Month, Saipan Agricultural Fair Day proclaimed
A proclamation declaring June as the Natural Resources Month and setting aside a day for the Saipan Agricultural Fair was signed yesterday at the Garapan Public Market.

Among those present at the signing were Department of Land and Natural Resources Secretary Richard Seman, Garapan Public Market president and volunteer Maria Frica Pangelinan, and Northern Marianas College president Dr. Sharon Hart.
Members of the college’s 4H Club and student winner of the Agricultural Fair’s theme contest from Chacha Ocean View Middle School read the proclamation.
The proclamation is intended for all farmers, fishermen, ranchers, hunters, gatherers, and for those who rely on our natural resources as a means of survival, subsistence, and business.
The theme for 2015 is “Farmers and Ranchers Bring Life to our Islands,” to recognize their hard work, initiative, and self-sufficiency.
The proclamation is also “a call for celebration and appreciation to our farmers and ranchers who bring life to our islands.”
Inos and Torres “urge all citizens to appreciate what Mother Nature has provided for us and foster meaningful stewardship of our resources for our future generations” and “to appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing healthy, abundant, and affordable products, and to recognize the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a robust local economy.”
They also called on people of the Commonwealth to value, appreciate, and protect the natural resources of the CNMI.
The Saipan Agricultural Fair Day is set on June 27 and will be held at the Civic Center in Susupe.
“[The proclamation] is a reminder for the community that the leadership of the government is supporting the local production of goods. We cannot sustain just by importing,” Pangelinan said.
