Sablan sweeps girls U10 events in All-Schools

Madeleine Sablan showed that she’s the fastest runner in the girls Under-10 division after sweeping all of her events in the recently concluded Public Schools System/McDonald’s All-Schools Athletics Championship.

Sablan and the rest of the more than 300 youngsters had to wait for one week before plunging into action as Typhoon Dolphin postponed the event, which was originally set from May 14 to 16.

Sablan’s wait was worth it as she ruled the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 400m runs where her 200m run time eclipsing Conatsu Kaga’s record last year. She had personal best times in all of her events, eclipsing her records in the qualifiers.

Sablan clocked in 9.09 seconds, shaving a tenth of a second during the qualifiers, 9.19, to win the 60m run gold then improved her 15.2 qualifying mark in the 100m run when she topped the race in 14.53 seconds.

She then added the 200m run gold after posting the fastest time of 32.74 seconds or close to five seconds faster than her qualifying time of 37.12 and better than Kaga’s 33.49 in last year’s championship.

San Vicente Elementary School teammates Victoria Torres (9.26) and Juliet Inocencio (9.40) finished second and third in the 60m run and changed places in the 100m sprint with the latter clinching the silver (15.03) and the latter the bronze (15.23).

Whispering Palms School’s River Kramer placed second in the 200m run with a time of 33.85 seconds, while Inocencio clinched the bronze (34.12).

Sablan then completed her gold-medal sweep in the 400m run when she crossed the finish line in 1:19.50 beating Kramer by 0.37 seconds as the WPS bet clocked in 1:19.87. Kagman Elementary School’s Joina Gildilak was third (1:23.53).

Kramer bounced back in the 800m run with a 3:12.64 time to lead a 1-2 finish for Whispering Palms as teammate Ellie Epley settled for the silver (3:13.73). Koblerville’s Princess Kasian (3:36.28) won the bronze.

Kasian won Koblerville’s fifth gold after ruling the 1,500m run with a time of 7:30.28 to beat Violet Allen of Whispering Palms by a hair (7:31.01). Marinel Falalimpa, also of Koblerville, was third (8:03.51).

William S. Reyes’ Raenna Ramarui and Paulynn Joyce gave the Kingfishers two gold medals in the long jump (4.58) and vortex-throw (26.32).

Inocencio (4.42) and Kasian (4.10) finished second and third to Ramarui in the long jump event, while Heart Esquivel of WSR (26.03) and Tinian’s Pritzel Carreon (23.80) duplicated the feat in the v-throw.

In the U10 boys division, Saipan International School’s Rintaro Miyawaki gave the Geckos three gold medals in the 400m (1:17.73), 800m (2:51.26), and 1,500m (5:48.41) running events. His 5:48.41 time in the 1500m run is better than his last year’s 5:54.26 record.

WSR’s Jim Maniago (1:23.98) and San Vicente’s John Lloyd Tuquero (1:25.19) came in second and third in the 400m run, while Marcus Pelisamen also of WSR (3:17.30) and Whispering Palms’ Max Church (3:20.23) equaling the feat in the 800m run. WSR teammates John Mark Anastacio (7:02.85) and John Ray Shahadat (7:45.30) won the silver and bronze in the 1500m run.

Devin Igisomar won two golds for Oleai Elementary School, 60m run (9.0)) and 100m run (15.55) with his teammates Ariel Narvaez (9.39) and Jonathan Wolf (17.39) placing second and third in both events.

San Vicente’s Jovic Tuquero bagged the 60m run bronze (9.59), while Tinian’s Saim Ali silver in the 100m run with a time of 16.36.

WSR’s Lushawn Reyes (35.76), Oleai’s Wolf (36.08), and San Vicente’s John Lloyd Tuquero (36.69) in the 200m run; Saipan Community School’s Seung Jim-Paik (3.60m), Seho Baek of Koblerville (3.50), and WSR’s Luke Mersai (3.28) in long jump; and WSR’s Freddy Pelisamen (35.20), and SVES teammates Alexander Villazon (34.08) and Franklin Pangelinan (31.08) in the v-throw were the other medalists.
