Eleven girls and five boys from eighth grade to first year college will compete in modeling their summer wear and the highly anticipated trash wear, where the candidates walk down the ramp with clothes made from recycled materials.
In order to win, they have to be able to wear the ingeniously created clothes from “trash to class,” as event coordinator Sharmaine Casquero puts it.
One winner each will be chosen for the male and female categories.
Candidates this year for the female category are Romeena Manzon, Nina Rhitz Manzon, Zhee Frazier, Pauline Castro, Michelle Galang, Stephanie Lagunero, Rizza Mae Manzon, Ashley Shennel Tabilisma, Deindy Fernando, Angela Barbo, and Chayanne Delos Santos.
For the male category, they are Archie Abugan, Ken Yasuda, Austin Barcinas, Mark Anthony Mintac, and Daniel Atalig.
As part of their summer wear, the candidates will also be strutting with T-shirts-turned-eco bags that the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance made.
Last Tuesday, candidates were presented to the public with the stylish eco bags, which can also be purchased tonight at the event as part of their fundraising efforts.
Like last year, this event is also in cooperation with the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, to further raise awareness of the importance of the 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect.
