Bordallo statement on Memorial Day
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Madeleine Z. Bordallo issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:
“Each Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who serve our nation in uniform and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom. We owe these brave men and women a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices they make every day so that we can enjoy the liberties and opportunities that we have today.
“In a special way, today we honor our fallen heroes who gave their lives to protect our way of life. Here on Guam, we know all too well the sacrifices made by our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen and their families. Our sons and daughters from Guam have answered our nation’s call to serve, and we also honor our veterans who have served with honor. Brave men and women from Guam have served our nation in every conflict since World War II, and many continue to serve with distinction both here at home and around the world. We give them and their families our deepest thanks.
“On this Memorial Day, we honor our fallen heroes and we cherish the memory of their sacrifice to protect our way of life. We also pray for the safe return of our sons and daughters who serve in harm’s way around the world. Let us recommit ourselves to ensuring that our nation and our community provide for our servicemembers, veterans and their families in a manner that is worthy of the sacrifices they have made for our nation and our island. God bless our men and women in uniform. God bless Guam. God bless the United States of America.” (Office of the Delegate)
