Finding answers to the retirees’ questions
A close friend of mine of over 40 years, Bill Stewart, had an article in your paper on May 19 titled “Retirees running out of time (in more ways than one).” Mr. Stewart mentioned about “Mr. Fix-it” and further stated in the article…“and drafting him for the next governor” etc. I am flattered and sincerely appreciate his views. I think Bill’s idea of drafting me to be the next governor was prompted by his deep concern for hundreds, if not thousands, of defined benefit members (retirees) who are looking for answers to the questions about the fluctuations in their pension and how it affected their life insurance coverage to an indemnity rate of 1.8 instead of the original 2.0.
I do not have to be drafted to run for governor in order to be able to help my fellow retirees find the answers we are all looking for. My employer considers this task a “community service” and as such I am perfectly willing to do whatever I can to seek the answers and share them with my colleagues. It might be necessary to request the representatives of the CNMI government and the Settlement Trustee to meet with the retirees. If and when a meeting is set, I would like the help of the media to record it so other off-island retirees will have access to the proceedings of the meeting.
I ask the indulgence of the retirees to bear with me as it will take time to prepare a function.
