‘Walk in Our Shoes’ today
The Division of Public Health is inviting the public to take part in its “Walk in Our Shoes” event, a three-mile walk from the Garapan Fishing Base that will have men joining to experience what it’s like to be pregnant.
The walk will take place from 3:30pm to 5:30pm and will have men participating in the walk with a 25-lb sack of rice on their bellies.
“Please join us and cheer on the men who willingly carry a 25-lb sack of rice,” said TaAnn T. Kabua of CHCC-DPH Maternal and Child Health Bureau. “The first five participants to cross the finish line will receive cash prizes. Other participants will be receiving gift certificates and other incentives.”
“May is also Karidat Services Month and we are hosting a food drive for the only women’s shelter in the CNMI. If you would like to donate non-perishable food items, please drop them off [at designated sites] at CHCC,” she said.
Other events lined up include a Cooking Demo to feature three CNMI restaurants that serve healthy meals.
On Tuesday, May 26, CHCC will provide health services to incarcerated women at the Department of Corrections.
The ZUMBA Party scheduled for May 28 at Garapan Central Park will wrap up the month. The CHCC Employee Association will host dinner. Health screenings will begin at 4:30pm, followed by the ZUMBA exercise from 6pm to 7pm.
“The real celebration will be from 7pm to 10pm. A live band, through a generous donation from Toothworks, will be available for your entertainment,” Kabua said.
“On behalf of the CHCC CNMI Women’s Health Month Committee, Employee Health Association, and partners, I would like to thank those who have contributed to the various events in observance of the first ever CNMI Women’s Health Month,” she added.
