Kilili, Karidat organize relief effort for Rota
Cash donations sought to purchase food, cooking supplies
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan has announced a privately-funded relief effort to assist the residents of Rota as they continue to deal with the aftermath of Typhoon Dolphin. He is partnering with Karidat, a local 501(c)3 charitable organization in order to accept monetary donations from individuals and businesses in the Northern Mariana Islands.
“Really, what is most needed [on] Rota right now are durable foodstuffs that can be easily prepared and do not require refrigeration, as well as cooking supplies such as butane for portable stoves,” according to Sablan. “Our family and friends on Rota will likely be facing shortages in the near future.”
“I’ve always been moved by how quickly we have been able to provide aid to other communities in the face of natural disasters. We accomplish many great things when we put our hearts and minds to it. People on Rota have a great need as a result of Typhoon Dolphin. I am asking people to please be generous and to please help Rota now,” he added.
The effort is aimed at collecting monetary donations, rather than in-kind donations, so that purchases can be made uniformly and quickly. Donations in the form of cash or check can be delivered to the Karidat office in the Sablan Building in Chalan Piao. For additional information, individuals and businesses interested in supporting the relief effort can contact Karidat at 234-5248. Deadline for donations is Thursday, May 28, 2015.
