MHS to face SSHS in MISO softball playoffs
Marianas High School takes on Saipan Southern High School today at the start of the playoff round of the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Fast-pitch softball league at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan ball field.
MISO executive director Nick Gross said that with Tinian and Rota not joining this season, he decided to proceed with a four-team tournament between MHS, Mt. Carmel School, Kagman High School, and Saipan Southern.
The Lady Dolphins are aiming for a third straight finals stint in order to complete their own three-peat title bid and in the process match the most number of titles won by their semis opponent.
MHS defeated Saipan Southern in 2012, 17-16, to win its first softball crown and duplicated the feat against the Lady Mantas, 9-7, last year. SSHS was the inaugural champion in 2008 and was the champion until 2010.
Kagman, the No. 3 seed after the double-round robin, dethroned three-time champion Saipan Southern in 2011. The Lady Ayuyus will take on the second-ranked Mt. Carmel Lady Knights in the playoffs tomorrow, Tuesday.
The losing teams of today’s match and tomorrow’s game will play in a consolation game on Thursday, May 21, while both winners of the playoffs contests will clash for the championship on Friday, May 22.
All games start at 4pm with four complete innings an official result. The home plate umpire may stop the game if he deemed it is no longer safe to continue the match.
The mercy rule will be applied with the game ending after four innings if one team is ahead by 20 or more runs or in the fifth if they are leading by 10 ore more runs.
