6 will vie for 2015 Miss Marianas tiara on Thursday
Coming out of a six-year hiatus, Miss Marianas will be staged once again this Thursday and another queen shall be crowned in the CNMI.
Six candidates will vie for the Miss Marianas 2015 title at the Sandcastle Saipan in Hyatt Regency.
“Last year was the Miss Marianas Teen. This year we’re crowning the queen to send to global competitions,” organizer Stellar Marianas president Laila Boyer said.

This year’s contestants—Jian Joyner, Dana Manglona, Riana McCale, Daysia San Nicolas, Joanna Navarro, and Irene Torres—were presented to the media on Thursday.
“I’m very excited. I’ve been preparing for two months. We’ve had practices and at home my family helps me with the question and answer parts and I practice my walk wherever I go. I hope I win,” said 20-year-old Joyner, who is an associate degree holder in Liberal Arts.
Manglona, also 20 years old, said it was her childhood dream to become an international model and beauty queen. She also wants to become a Web and graphic designer specialist.
McCale, 20, wanted to overcome her shyness, which is why she joined the pageant.
“I’m a really shy person so I thought joining the pageant would be a great way for me to grow as a person and also build up my self-confidence,” she said.
When asked about who her role model in life is, San Nicolas said it was her grandmother.
“My grandma is my role model because she was the strongest woman I knew. She was the heart of the family even if she suffered from having cancer for 10 years,” San Nicolas, 19, said.
Among the winner’s prizes is a chance to create and implement a community project under her name assisted by the islands’ nonprofit pageant and talent group, Stellar Marianas.
Navarro, 19, and Torres, 20, each have a different program in mind.
For Navarro she wants to develop programs that are related to the tourism industry and sports while Torres wants to create programs and projects that center around children, teens, and young adults.
On Thursday, the islands will see not only a new crowned queen but also a great show.
“The theme is vintage Hollywood so they’re going to be in a for a great show. There’s going to be a magic show from Sandcastle, live performances from Nikita Mendiola and also from Glushko Academy and Saipan Music and Dance Studio,” Boyer said.
Boyer is encouraging everyone to get their tickets at Iridescent Boutique as seats are limited.
“We are encouraging the community to please come out and support this worthwhile community endeavor and to support our young women who are about to showcase the confidence and beauty of our islands,” she added.
Miss Marianas 2015 will receive a crown, trophy, sash, and flowers, $1,500 cash, all-expense paid travel opportunity to compete in two international pageants, all-expense paid travel opportunities, a brand new smartphone, one-year supply of beauty products, one-year gym membership and personal trainer, one-year use of a personal stylist and manicurist, a professional model portfolio, and a four-piece luggage set from Stellar Marianas.
