The following is a joint statement from Gov. Eloy S. Inos & Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres:

“As of present moment Saipan, Tinian and Rota remain in Typhoon Condition I, meaning typhoon force conditions can be expected within the next several hours. We want to let all of you know that all of you are in our thoughts as this storm passes, and implore all of you to once again take necessary caution and refrain from venturing out of your homes, or heading near the water during the present state we are in.

Recently, reports have come to our attention of businesses staying open and conducting business after Typhoon Condition I was declared. We strongly urge these businesses to take the measures to close for the day, and for employers and employees to secure their establishments and make their way to their residences until this system passes, and an all-clear declaration is declared. We are presently in a state where damage is a certainty due to the uncertainty of this storm’s strength.

Staying open during this typhoon is not only an occupational hazard for these businesses, but also for residents who are enticed into leaving their homes and entering the storm’s wake. Local authorities are making their best efforts in informing each of you to stay safe, we encourage the same. We ask all of you to take necessary steps and put safety first right now.
