Tudela proposes upgrades to CK Kiosku
Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chair Antonia M. Tudela is pushing to amend some provisions of a local bill that would appropriate $1 million from Public Law 18-56 to the Chalan Kanoa Kiosku facility.
House Local Bill 19-3, introduced by Rep. Blas Jonathan “B.J.” Attao (Ind-Saipan), seeks to re-appropriate $1 million from PL 18-56 for the third senatorial district.
Of the $1 million, $300,000 is being proposed as patient stipend for Saipan and Northern Island patients under the Medical Referral Program, $175,000 for the Saipan Mayor’s Office, $25,000 for the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office, and $100,000 for community projects.
A separate section would appropriate $100,000 for Precinct 2. Tudela is proposing to replace the current language to include infrastructure improvements for the Kiosku: $25,000 for the security upgrade, $15,000 for weatherproof reinforcement, and $15,000 or $30,000 for solar lighting panel or system upgrade or replacement.
“These requested infrastructure improvements at the CK Kiosku facility located across the U.S Post Office is part of our community project that serves the community of CK and the CNMI,” Tudela said.
“In addition, the council requests an allocation for solar lighting system upgrade of $10,000 or replacement of $30,000 at the Kiosku parking facility. This facility serves patrons at the post office and Kiosku visitors. Funding for these can also be taken from House Local Bill 19-4 and House Local Bill 19-5,” she added.
Tudela expressed support, though, for the Saipan and Northern Islands mayors offices to be allocated $100,000 each.
Saipan residents who avail of mail services at the U.S Postal Service sometimes find parking difficult and many avail of the parking slots at the Kiosku facility.
