25 PBTs in 3 sprint races

Twenty-five more personal best times were recorded in three sprint races in the 2014-2015 Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation Championships held early this month at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.
In the 50m breaststroke, 15 PBTs were made, while eight and two were posted in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events, respectively.
In the 50m breaststroke, Tsunami Saipan’s Ashley Dangol registered 53.04 seconds to eclipse her old PBT of 55.33 seconds. Dangol’s three other Tsunami Saipan teammates achieved PBTs in the girls U8 division with Shoko Litulumar, Seiyul Hong, and Mizuki Suzuki clocking in at 1:01.22, 1:14.71, and 1:23.48.
Others who earned PBTs were Tsunami Saipan’s Sean Gil (1:06.64), Arman Rechucher (54.37), Manuel Babauta (1:23.86), Hans Xu (50.08), Angel De Jesus (43.65), and Kyona Rivera (42.38), and Saipan Swim Club’s Taiyo Akimaru (49.94 seconds), Jinnosuke Suzuki (50.69 seconds), Leo Takahashi (56.12), R.J. Pierce (46.29), and Wataru Kadokura (1:01.65).
Wataru also marked a PBT in 50m backstroke, timing in at 1:02.49, which is more than 18 seconds faster than his record of 1:20.98. Kadokura raced in the boys U8 division and beat Babauta, who posted a PBT of 1:14.36 (from 1:18.27). In the girls U8, Mizuki Suzuki and Hong were PBT getters, too after tallying 1:16.64 and 1:05.70, respectively.
In the 9 to 10 age group, Tsunami Saipan’s Sean Gil’s PBT read at 1:03.07, while SSC’s Mark Janier Chavez had the same feat with his 1:03.54. Jasmin Frink (48.41 seconds) and Akira Kadokura (55.65 seconds) of the 11 to 12 division rounded out the list of PBT getters in the 50m backstroke.
In the 50m butterfly, SSC’s Christian Villacrusis registered the fastest time at 31.72 seconds, which is his new PBT, surpassing his old mark of 32.38. Tsunami Saipan’s Rei Sekiguchi was the other swimmer to notch a PBT in the 50m butterfly after logging 38.25 seconds, more than two seconds better than her previous PBT of 40.33 seconds.
Meanwhile, results of the last three events in NMISF’s final tournament of the season will be reported later this week.
