Transit bus is very important for us
Almost 60 percent of our people, including our guest workers in the CNMI, use the $3 taxi 24/7. These guys make more money than the metered taxicabs. From 12am onward they charge $5. Some driver asks that you pay first, saying “no pay, no ride.” If they get into an accident their passengers are not insured. Besides, some of there drivers do not speak English well. Can you imagine how much money we are losing in tax revenue for our government from these illegal taxis? Yet our lawmakers can’t seem to see this longstanding problem.
I remember way back when the garment factory workers were here. At that time they had thousands of employees working in difference factories. During their days off, many of these garment factory workers would spend their time at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino and would pay $3 going to and $3 coming from the Port of Saipan. The president of the metered taxicabs association, Mr. Rabby Syed, complained but no action was taken.
I wish our lawmakers can see this longstanding problem and establish the transit bus system that our tourists and residents could both enjoy and ride on.
