JP World caging eyes June opening
The 2nd JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League is hoping to open its competition this June at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Only the first 10 teams to register and complete the league requirements will be allowed to participate in the second edition of the annual caging. League coordinator Marlon Sison said so far six companies have expressed their interest in competing in the tournament that is exclusive for the Mobil fleet card and wholesale customers. Inaugural season finalist Micronesian Brokers, Inc., which lost to Shirley’s Coffee Shop in the finals, 83-91, leads the list and maybe joined by fellow returnees Commonwealth Utilities Corp, Docomo Pacific, Public School System, Saipan Ice and Water, and Joeten. Top Development, Inc. was the ninth team to join last season’s tournament.
All squads will get free uniforms from the league sponsor and each squad is allowed to have a maximum of 12 players only. Players should be employees of the company they are representing and must get employment certification from their human resource department.
Entrance fee is only $630 and must be submitted on or before May 8, which is also the deadline for submission of rosters. The league will be implementing a first-come, first-serve rule in accepting entries and designating uniform colors for each squad. Games will be played three times a week or every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
“We are bringing back the league this year to show appreciation to our valued customers,” Sison said in the invitation letter sent out to interested teams. “This also aims to promote camaraderie and discipline among the players, coaches, team managers, and basketball fans.”
