FA Challenge Cup kicks off today
The 2015 FA Boys and Girls Challenge Cup will start today with two games scheduled at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
On Pitch 1, Paire Football Club’s girls U15 team will take on Tan Holdings’ girls U15 crew at 4:30pm. Over at Pitch 1 at the same time, it will be MP United U15G against defending champion Paire U12 co-ed.
Paire U12 dethroned MP United U12 last year, pulling off a 3-2 win in a shootout during their title match at the San Antonio Middle School Field.
Ten teams are vying for the championship in this year’s Challenge Cup with MP United U12 co-ed, Matansa U15G, Kanoa U12 co-ed, and Shirley’s U15 seeded in the tournament and were given byes in the first round. Completing the roster are Tan Holdings U12 co-ed and Kanoa U15 Girls. The Top 2 teams (As of April 18) in the U12 co-ed and girls U15 were seeded in the Challenge Cup.
The seeded teams and six other participating squads are divided into two groups and each pool will play in a single-elimination format. Each game will be played in two 30-minute halves.
On the east side of the draw, the winner between MP United U15G and Paire U12 co-ed will meet Kanoa U12 co-ed on May 2 at the San Antonio pitch at 1:30pm. Also scheduled to duel at the San Antonio pitch at 3pm on May 2 are Matansa U15G and Tan Holdings U12 co-ed. Victors of these May 2 games will then collide on May 6 in Hopwood (Pitch 2) at 4:30pm for the finals berth on the east side of the draw.
On the west side, the winner of the Paire U15G-Tan Holdings U15G tiff will advance against Shirley’s FC U15G and play on May 2 at 1:30pm at the Koblerville Elementary School Field. KES will also host the 3:30pm pairing between MP United U12 co-ed and Kanoa U15G. Winning teams in the May 2 games will then proceed to Hopwood’s Pitch 1 on May 6 to fight for the other finals ticket.
The championship game will be played on May 9 at 3pm at the Hopwood pitch after the 1:30pm consolation match.
