The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services on Saturday issued an order stopping the operation of a bakery in Susupe due to a fire that injured an employee.

DFEMS spokesman Derek Gersonde said yesterday that Chow Queen Bakery was closed down until the violations are rectified and verified through follow up inspections.

Gersonde said the bakery was inspected and it was concluded that its baking activities were unsafe.

Saipan Tribune repeatedly contacted yesterday the owner of Chow Queen Bakery to get her side, but she could not be reached. As of press time, she had yet to return the newspaper’s call.

Gersonde said the stop order was issued after an incident in which a bakery employee was injured in a fire at the establishment.

Gersonde said the employee’s injury and its cause were not immediately reported to authorities.

He said in an interview with the victim at the Commonwealth Health Center’s emergency room, arson investigators learned that the victim received burns at his workplace.

Arson investigators then conducted follow-up investigation and inspected the workplace.

“Further information on the victim’s injuries will be released through CHCC. Inspection updates on this matter will be released as they become available,” the spokesman said.
