Talaabwogh StaR team will be joining the 2015 Marianas March Against Cancer, the signature fundraising event of the Commonwealth Cancer Association.

The non-profit organization, made up of residents of Tanapag and youths and members of the Santa Remedios Parish, will be joining the MMAC for the third straight year.

Talaabwogh StaR’s vision is to focus on positive impacts within their village, Tanapag, and make it more accessible and available to not only their youth but all residents.

They hope to prevent the youth and community members from substance abuse such as alcohol, tobacco and other illicit drugs that lead to negative habits.

Team captain Rep. Vinnie Sablan (Ind-Saipan) said their approach has always been to guide the youth to build character, citizenship, principles, and values through faith-based teachings as well as positive community service.

“Though a small community, cancer caused by the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other substances has profoundly impacted the lives of many in our village of Talaabwogh [Tanapag],” Sablan said.

“Our involvement in MMAC is one of the best ways to help support and raise funds for the fight against cancer. Additionally, in accordance with our goals and objectives, the MMAC is the perfect avenue to effectively spread the message of prevention. We will be dedicating our participation in memory of those in our village who have gone and to those still battling and continuing the fight,” he added.

This year’s event will be held at the Hopwood Junior High School field this Friday and Saturday.
